restoration and revegetation

A visit to Hindmarsh Island in 1990 showed a barren and degraded landscape, devoid of native scrub, with no significant trees. Suffering from wind erosion, weed invasion, salinity and shoreline erosion, the island had been abused for far too long.

In 1991/92, after funds were made available through Greening Australia Hindmarsh Island Landcare Group was formed.

Today we have planted over 700,000 lower, mid and upper storey flora on more than 80 sites over the length and breadth of Kumarangk.

We run our own nursery which can hold up to 60,000 tube stock. While our initial purpose for the plants we grow is to use them for revegetation, we are proud to say they are also available for sale to the public to assist people to find not just Aussie natives but those endemic to the Fleurieu region.

We continuously seek grants/funds to allow us to continue the revegetation of the Island.

We are a registered charity and deductible gift recipient grateful to receive donations allowing us to continue this important work.
